Characteristic of steering gear fluid

(i)                The oil must maintain its viscosity over a range of temp. so that it can still be effective when hot.

(ii)             Oil must be as incompressible that transmission of power is instantaneous.

(iii)           Good lubricating properties to prevent wear.

(iv)           The oil must be non-freezable.
