Some steering gear related definition

1.     100% torque: Two independent and separate power actuating systems each capable of meeting the requirements. That is 100% torque in each group of ram.

2.     50% torque: Two identical power actuating systems which acting simultaneously in normal operation shall be capable of meeting the requirements. That is 50% torque in each group of ram.

3.     Single failure concept: Any one failure on the system will not put the system out of action for not more than 45 seconds.

4.     100% Redundancy: Redundancy is the duplication of equipment such that if there is a failure there is no loss of vital services.
