Steering gear regulation



1.     Main steering: The main steering shall be capable of turning the rudder from 350 on one side to 300 on the other side with the ship at its deepest sea going draft/draught and running ahead at maximum speed within 28 seconds.
2.     Auxiliary steering: The auxiliary steering shall be capable of turning the rudder from 150 on one side to 150on the other side with the ship at its deepest sea-going draft/draught and running ahead at one half of the maximum speed or 7 knots whichever is greater within 60 seconds.
3.     Electrical power: An alternative source of electric power should be provided to the steering gear unit within 45 seconds and shall have a capacity for at least 30 minutes of continuous operation.
