Steering system without hunting gear & emcy operation
- Steering gear without hunting gear: This system is called non follow up system. We know in non follow up system - The rudder will move as long as the control is held in an actuating position and will stop when it is moved back to off position.
It’s
also called “Time Dependent Steering”.
Here,
the helmsman acts as the hunting gear, stopping rudder movement as soon as it
has reached the desired angle as signaled by the rudder indicator. Therefore
the rudder indicator becomes an essential link in the steering gear system
& together with helmsman completes the control loop.
Procedure of emergency steering drill:

Inform bridge & proper authority
for safety and other concern.

Display card (emergency operation
procedure)

Turn the bridge S/G control follow
up to non follow up

Start one p/p manually

Established communication between
S/G room and bridge by walkie-talkie or telephone.

According to bridge instruction give
the rudder movement by operating the solenoid v/v manually.

Compare rudder angle indicator with
that of bridge.
-
Make everything normal after finish
the drill.
