Why thrust bearing clearance taken & fitted?

1.     If clearance is low – bearing temp. increases, power loss, failure of bearing occurs.

2.     If clearance is higher – no harm to the thrust pad. Axial movement will cause damage to main machinery.

                                                             i.      Normal clearance – 0.5 to 1 mm.

                                                           ii.      Acceptable           - 1.5 mm

                                                        iii.      Maximum allow  - 2 mm.
